Our clients asked us to provide a family room related to their existing kitchen. This would be a room to be used all year round by all the family – a true heart to the house. We chose to design the room round a double sided fireplace, whilst taking advantage of the superb views. The form of the room, with exposed roof timbers radiating from the central chimney, was chosen to harmonize with the existing roof and chimney shapes and to blend in with neighbouring farm buildings, which are all covered in local red tiles. Further conical roofs cover the woodshed and the chimney formed out of an existing flint garden wall.
