restoration and extension to a cotswold barn

This magnificent barn built in 1821 was roofed in asbestos and had been abandoned when purchased by our client. Working closely with the client we decided to take advantage of the views over the Cherwell Valley, whilst retaining the unique character of the barn. Also a carport and playroom were required. The solution was to restore and add to the roof, place the living rooms, kitchen and playroom on the first floor with sleeping accommodation and car storage at ground level. The entrance in the east elevation provides privacy for the garden and the required views. To the south a conservatory captures warm air for the benefit of the living room. The client himself carried out the building work within six months
