Leisure: Leigh Breeze Hall, London

The Samuel Lewis Housing Trust invited us to design a hall for its 128 elderly residents at their Leyton estate in the East End.
Working closely with the warden and residents we found in addition to a meeting room they also required a greenhouse for the many keen gardeners, a laundry, a hairdressing and kitchen facility as well as storage. The choice of timber cladding contributes to the sustainable qualities of the building.
The hall completes one side of a large courtyard and its bright character forms a much loved focus for the community.
